About this tool
Most of a PDF's size is images. Compress images mode finds every embedded JPEG and uncompressed picture, scales it down to the maximum size you choose and re-encodes it as a JPEG at the chosen quality, then rebuilds the file with compact object streams. Text, vector graphics, fonts and links are untouched, so the document still prints crisply.
Extreme mode renders every page to a JPEG at the chosen resolution and builds a new PDF from those pictures. It produces the smallest files for scanned documents but removes text selection and search. Lossless clean-up only rewrites the file structure, which helps for PDFs bloated by repeated saves and does not change a single pixel.

- How much smaller will my PDF get?
- Photo-heavy files often shrink by 50–90%. Text-only PDFs have little to compress; try the lossless clean-up, which typically saves a few percent.
- Will the text stay selectable?
- Yes in compress images and lossless modes. Extreme mode turns pages into pictures, so the text is no longer selectable or searchable.
- Why did the file not get smaller?
- Its images are already small or use a format the tool leaves alone, such as images with transparency masks. Lower the quality, reduce the maximum image size, or use extreme mode.
- Is the PDF uploaded?
- No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, which is why there is no file size limit apart from your device's memory.
