Trimming is a sample-accurate cut: the samples between your start and end times are kept and everything else is dropped, so the result has no gap, click or re-timing. The player above the fields is the original file, which makes it easy to read off the times you want.
Because the file is decoded to raw samples first, the cut is not limited to MP3 frame boundaries the way stream-copy tools are. The trade-off is a re-encode: choose 256 or 320 kbps if the source was high quality, or WAV if you will edit the result further.
