About this tool

Beyond a simple word count, writers and editors want to know whether a text is readable and repetitive. Average sentence length and syllables per word feed the Flesch reading-ease formula: scores above 60 read like everyday prose, below 30 like academic papers. The unique-word ratio reveals repetitive writing, and the frequency list shows which terms dominate — useful for SEO checks and for spotting overused words.

Reading time assumes 225 words per minute, speaking time 140. Stop words such as the, and, of are excluded from the frequency list in the five site languages. All analysis runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the readability score?
Flesch was calibrated on English; for other languages treat it as a relative measure between your own drafts.
How are sentences counted?
By terminal punctuation (. ! ? …) followed by a space or the end of text. Abbreviations can inflate the count slightly.
Does it handle Turkish, German or French text?
Yes. Word detection is Unicode-aware and common stop words in those languages are filtered out of the frequency list.
