About this tool
PDF metadata is what viewers show in the Properties dialog and what search engines and document systems index: title, author, subject, keywords, the application that created the file and the creation and modification dates. A correct title makes a PDF look professional in browser tabs and search results; a stale author name or the internal software version can leak information you would rather keep private.
The editor writes the classic Info dictionary fields. Removing all metadata clears them and resets the dates. The page content is untouched. Everything runs locally with pdf-lib.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does the author show a colleague's name?
- Office applications fill the author from the account that created the original document. Change it here before publishing.
- Does this remove metadata inside images or XMP packets?
- It rewrites the standard document properties. Embedded image EXIF is not modified; use the EXIF Remover on images before placing them in a PDF.
- Can I set the creation date to the future?
- Any date is accepted, but some viewers display an odd value for dates after today.
