About this tool
Cameras and phones write EXIF data into every photo: model, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, the exact time and often the GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken. That is convenient for photographers and dangerous for privacy — a photo posted online can reveal your home address. Most social networks strip metadata, but email, messaging apps and many websites do not.
The remover re-encodes the pixels through a canvas, which discards every metadata block (EXIF, IPTC, XMP and ICC) while keeping the image at high quality. Orientation is applied to the pixels first, so the clean photo is not turned sideways. Reading and removing both happen on your device.
Frequently asked questions
- Does removing metadata change the picture?
- The pixels are re-saved at 95% quality for JPEG, which is visually identical. PNG and WebP are re-encoded losslessly. Resolution is unchanged.
- No metadata was found — is the tool broken?
- Probably not. Screenshots, images edited by many apps and photos downloaded from social media usually have no EXIF at all.
- Which files can I inspect?
