About this tool
Resizing changes the number of pixels in an image. Downscaling merges neighbouring pixels and is almost always safe; the tool uses the browser's highest-quality smoothing to keep edges crisp. Upscaling cannot invent detail, so an enlarged image looks softer the further you push it.
Pick dimensions for the place the image will live: 1200 pixels wide is plenty for a blog post, 1080 for a square social post, 512 or 256 for icons and avatars. Smaller dimensions also mean smaller files, which is why resizing is the first step before compressing an image for the web.

- Keep the aspect-ratio lock on. Type either the width or the height and the other value follows automatically.
- Can I resize by percentage?
- Yes. Switch to percent mode and drag the slider; the resulting dimensions are shown next to it.
- Which format should I choose?
- Keep the original unless you have a reason to change: WebP for the smallest files, PNG for transparency, JPEG for photos that must open everywhere.
- Is there a maximum size?
- The output is limited to 16,384 pixels per side, which is the safe limit for browser canvases.
